We have progressive short maths blocks as well as long flexible blocks.
Which to use: Hamilton’s new flexible maths blocks or our adaptable weekly plans?
Take control of the balance between the parts of the English curriculum too.
The National Curriculum statutory content for Year 5 is arranged below in short mathematical topic blocks over the year. Each block is divided into units. Each unit is focussed around one or two specific skills within that topic. Hamilton recommend this as a pedagogically progressive route through the longer blocks.
Due to the amount of subject matter in the National Curriculum, there is not much ‘wriggle room’ if teachers want to teach every unit in each block. In Autumn, there are only 9 days ‘spare’, in Spring – 7 days, and in Summer – 2 days. So you may need to select carefully what to leave out.
You can navigate back to the weekly plans by selecting your year group on the red bar above or use the button on the right to find the longer flexible blocks.
