  1. Tell children The Three Billy Goats Gruff, emphasising repetitive language, ‘Who’s that trip trapping over my bridge?’... Why did the goats want to cross the bridge? See also the animated tale version available in the resources. Did children already know the story? Did they guess the ending?
  2. (Follows AL1) Display the story map, reminding children what it shows, then tell the story together. Children can use their masks (see Exploring & Playing) to role play different characters!
  3. Display & read Billy Dogs Gruff. What do children think of this version? Compare and discuss.
  4. Enjoy reading an alternative version of the Three Billy Goats Gruff.
