Lesson Planning

Try some new sculpting techniques like those used by Hepworth. Reflect back on your own ideas and create your sculpture using Hepworth’s style and technique as an influence.

Teaching Outcomes:

  • To explore the sculpture of Barbara Hepworth.
  • To interpret a landscape into two abstract sculptures.
  • To compare clay and soap as mediums for sculpture.

Children will:

  • Identify concrete and abstract sculptures.
  • Practise sculpting techniques with soap and clay.
  • Create soap and clay sculptures using Hepworth’s style and techniques and approaches as an influence.
