English

  • Drama and role-play can contribute to the quality of pupils’ writing by providing opportunities for pupils to develop & order their ideas through playing roles/ improvising scenes in various settings.
  • Listening to, discussing and expressing views about a wide range of non-fiction at a level beyond that at which they can read independently
  • Being introduced to non-fiction books that are structured in different ways.
  • Discussing and clarifying the meanings of words, linking new meanings to known vocabulary.
  • Write sentences by: saying out loud what they are going to write about; composing a sentence orally before writing it.
  • Read aloud their writing clearly enough to be heard by their peers and the teacher.

Lesson Planning

Today we are going to find out about keeping teeth healthy.

Children will:

  • Find out facts about their teeth: how many teeth humans have; the names and the functions of teeth.
  • Investigate how to care for teeth.
  • Create singing rhyme to help establish and remember a good oral hygiene routine.

  • Flipchart list of healthy themes
  • Mr Couch Potato (Mr CP)
  • Arrange visit from Dentist or local dental practice or ‘Active Smile’ or ‘Dental Buddy’
  • Resources for Role-Play
  • Dental mirrors
  • Information books
  • Playdough
  • Low cost toothbrushes
  • Letter writing paper and envelopes
  • Junk modelling materials - glue, equipment
