Objectives

Geography

  • Understand geographical similarities and differences through the study of human geography of a region of the UK and a region within a rainforest.

Design and Technology

  • Use design techniques, consider the aesthetic appearance of an object.

Art

  • Improve their mastery of art and design techniques, including drawing, painting and sculpture with a range of materials.

PE

  • Perform dances using a range of movement patterns.

Lesson Planning

Celebrate the life of tribal people by sharing a feast of food and drink from the rainforest, performing a dance and teaching others what you have learned about tribal designs and shelter building.

Teaching Outcomes:

  • To explore the similarities and differences between their own culture and that of others in relation to tribes of the world’s rainforests.
  • To build a shelter from a set of resources.
  • To design and create artwork similar to tribal art.
  • To become familiar with the main features of African dancing and learn a short dance phrase.

Children will:

  • Create artwork with a tribal art theme
  • Build shelters from a given set of materials
  • Experience food that naturally grows in the rainforest
  • Perform their dances to an audience
