Objectives

Geography

  • To locate Spain on a map and concentrate on its environmental regions, key physical and human characteristics, and major cities.
  • To understand geographical similarities and differences through the study of human and physical geography of a region in Spain.
  • To describe and understand key aspects of physical and human geography.
  • To use maps, atlases, globes and digital/computer mapping to locate countries and describe features studied.

Design and Technology

  • To prepare and cook a savoury Spanish dish using a range of cooking techniques.
  • To understand seasonality, and know where and how a variety of ingredients are grown, reared, caught and processed.

Lesson Planning

Join the first 6 stages of La Vuelta and explore the landscape and human geography of Andalusia. Try your hand at cooking some of Andalusia’s most famous Spanish cuisine - tapas.

Teaching Outcomes:

  • To investigate and identify the human geography of Andalusia.
  • To cook a Spanish tapas dish and create a local produce tourist tapas poster.

Children will:

  • Use maps to identify physical geographical features of Andalusia.
  • Become food detectives, investigating and identifying the human geography of the area and how it contributes local ingredients for tapas dishes.
  • Cook a Spanish tapas dish (patatas bravas) to share.
  • Design and make a local produce tourist tapas poster.
