  • Learn about great artists, architects and designers in history.

Lesson Planning

Learn about the history of art in Europe and West Africa, and how the appearance of looted Benin art in Europe and America influenced western artists. Make a self-portrait in the style of one of the artists.

Teaching Outcomes:

  • To learn about European and West African art.
  • To learn about how West African art influenced European art.

Children will:

  • Explain how European artists were influenced by African art.
  • Research and identify the African art that influenced the European artists.
  • Make a piece of art influenced by African art.
