Compare the materials used to build homes in the Kumaon region with those used for your own house.
Teaching Outcomes:
- To begin to consider the impact of new technologies on the homes we live in and to think about why they haven’t impacted the homes in a remote Kumaoni village.
- To understand why different materials are used to build houses in different regions, considering climate, availability and value.
- To identify and compare the materials used for building homes in different regions of the world from photos of different homes, and from their own home.
Children will:
- Look at typical Kumaoni homes and compare them to their own homes.
- Consider materials available for building houses and begin to understand that some are better than others for homes in different regions.
- Begin to consider the impact of new technologies on the homes we live in and will think about why they haven’t impacted the homes in a remote Kumaoni village.
