Day 1
Count in fractions on fraction number lines. Revise finding a fractional amount, using bar models and making links to division. Extend to 3-digit numbers for Y4.

Y4 -- Find unit fractions of amounts (whole-number answers).
Day 2
Model finding unit then non-unit fractions of numbers of objects.

Use the in-depth problem-solving investigation ‘Fancy fraction answers’ as today’s group activity.
Or, use these activities:
Y3 -- Play a card game to practise finding and comparing non-unit fraction amounts.
-- Play a card game to find non-unit fractions of amounts.
Y4 -- Use knowledge of factors to write non-unit fraction facts about 24, 48 or 72; some children use a bar model to find non-unit fifths of multiples of 5.
Day 3
Use the Fractions ITP to revise equivalent fractions among 1/2s, 1/4s, 1/6s, 1/8s, 1/10s, beginning with equivalents for 1/2, then for 1/4. Repeat with other fractions.
Further Teaching with Y4
Use fraction number lines to explore equivalence of fractions and decimals.
Group Activities: T with Y4
Y3 -- Find equivalent fractions using a fraction wall.
-- Suggest fractions equivalent to ½ and 1/4.
Y4 – Use a fraction wall to find pairs of equivalent fractions.
– Make large equivalent fraction and decimal lines for tenths, eighths and twelfths, for an interactive classroom display.
Day 4
Find tenths of a number of cubes via practical demonstration. Relate this to a 0–1 line marked in tenths.

Use a blank 100 square to elicit fraction-decimal equivalences.

Y3 -- Find non-unit tenths of multiples of 10.
Y4 -- Match fraction and decimal cards to fraction pictures on a 100 square.
Day 5
Explore strategies for solving example fraction word problems.

Use pizzas to model adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator.

Y3 -- Add and subtract fractions with the same denominator.
