Problem solving and investigations
Use addition of pairs of 2-digit numbers in solving a calendar-based puzzle.
Solve a puzzle involving number sequences, using logic, trial & improvement and reasoning.
Work backwards/ use inverse operations to find start numbers in number chains and age-based word problems.
Solve ‘mystery triangles’ and ‘magic squares’, by applying addition skills and using logic, trial & improvement and reasoning.

Tell the time; introduce 5-min intervals
Day 1 Children write times in words under analogue and digital clocks. Times to nearest 1/2 hour. They also order times and match to daily events.
Day 2 Children order times to the nearest 1/2 hour throughout the day, using both digital and analogue formats.
Day 3 Children write times to the 1/4 hour, in words, alongside analogue clocks
Day 4 Children write 1/4 past and to times in written, digital and analogue formats. Some children also calculate 1/2 hour time differences.
Place value in 2-digit numbers
Count in 10s to continue sequences or complete place value additions and subtractions.
Partition and make 2-digit numbers and record them as number sentences.
Solve place value addition and subtraction problems.
