Nana, what’s an information text? 

This is a humorous story, told by a dinosaur. It provides a lot of information about information texts. Brilliantly conceived and illustrated, this is a must when introducing non-fiction texts as a genre. 

Chicken’s bad dream

This is a very simple text, suitable for start-up readers, which has a nice play on bad dreams with a quirky, surreal aspect to it will which amuse young readers. Bold illustrations complement the text.

Boris and Sid go camping

This gives an account, told from a child’s perspective, of a fun camping trip where it rains – and rains! Many children will empathise with the familiar context while reading this simple recount.

Owl and the moon

This is a story about an owl hunting for the moon and eventually finding it! Each page has a few lines of simple decodable text so that children are encouraged to read several sentences.
