Making the Most of Amira: Drop-in Session Recording

The End of Study Assessment: 13-24 April 2026

• Will I need to do anything to set up the end of study assessment?

  No. The end-of-study assessment will appear in Amira automatically. You don't need to set anything up.

• What do I actually need to do?

  Get all children in P3, P5, P7 (and Y8 for post-primary) onto Amira during the assessment window (13-24 April). Each child needs to complete the assessment once. Allow 15-20 minutes per child for that session. After that, carry on using Amira as normal.

• Do I need to make sure every single child completes it?

  Yes, as far as possible. Completion rates matter for the quality of the research. Please make every effort to get all children in the relevant year groups through the assessment before 24 April.

• What about children who haven't used Amira since October?

  Control class children are coming back to Amira after a gap. This is expected, but it may feel unfamiliar at first. Your Reading Champion is the best first point of contact for in-class support. You can also reach us at [email protected].

• What if I've lost the login details?

  Contact us at [email protected] and we'll help. We won't publish login details but can supply them directly if needed.

Log-in and roster support

• Where are our Amira log-in details?

  Your initial log-in details were sent in a welcome email. If a staff member has not received this, they can still log in by visiting the Amira log-in page and clicking ‘Trouble Logging In?’ to reset their password and activate their account.

• How do pupils get onto the Amira platform?

  Full log-in instructions for children are available in the project resources. For easier access in classrooms—such as creating QR codes or desktop shortcuts—you can request a unique log-in URL that pre-fills your school's details. Please email [email protected] to request this link.

• How can I add a new pupil who has joined the school after the initial data transfer?

  Follow these step-by-step instructions provided in the resources to add students manually.

• I need to add a new teacher, manager, or colleague to our school account.

  For adding staff members or changing access roles, follow these instructions.

General project guidance and resources

• The benchmark assessment window is open, but my pupils haven't had practice sessions yet.

  You can use a test student profile to help any students who have not yet completed a practice session to familiarise themselves with the platform before the official assessment. Follow these instructions for creating a test student profile.

• Amira didn't seem to adapt to the reading level for some of my pupils during the assessment.

  During the initial assessment, Amira will always present a passage to determine the student's level, which might be too challenging for some. Once the assessment is complete, Amira will use that data to adapt the content and provide personalised, supportive tutoring.

• Can teachers review the assessment recordings and re-score them if necessary?

  Yes. You and other teachers can review the student's recordings and manually re-score them if needed in the Progress Report section of the teacher dashboard.

• Where can I find the teacher training recordings and support materials?

• What should a student do if they need to exit a session early?

  The student should ideally finish reading the story and wait for Amira to save their progress. If they need to exit unexpectedly, they can close the window, and when they log back in, Amira will automatically resume from the last saved point.

Technical troubleshooting

• Amira is freezing/stalling, or the microphone isn't working.

  This is typically due to connectivity or device settings. Please try the following quick checks first:

  • Check network speed: Ensure a stable connection (at least 10 Mbps upload/download).
  • Restart the device: A simple restart can often resolve freezing issues.
  • Clear cache and cookies: This can help with browser performance.
  • Microphone issues: Ensure the microphone is allowed in the browser and functioning correctly. (Note: Logging out and back in has been reported to help with the microphone test).
