English Plans for Reception

By Grace Woollard - 15 Jun 2018

We are pleased to announce that flexible English blocks for Reception based on the new Early Learning Goals coming for 2020 will be appearing on our website in 2020.

Reception Flexible English Blocks

Hamilton's new English blocks will be available from 2020 and will cover the Early Learning Goals currently being piloted by the Government. Once they are finalised, Hamilton will promptly finalise our own plans for the structure and content of our new Reception blocks, so that you can have the most up-to-date planning possible for September.

The new Reception English blocks will follow the same topics as the weekly plans which they will gradually replace. To receive ongoing updates about the progress of Hamilton's new planning for Reception subscribe to Hamilton's e-newsletter.

Reception Weekly English Plans

Between them the National Curriculum Weekly Plans and Additional Plans cover all of the current Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) literacy outcomes as well as selected outcomes in other areas of the EYFS Curriculum. They are designed to allow complete flexibility: they can be taught in any order within the term and are written to enable teachers to easily adapt activities to meet the individual needs of their children, and to include continuous provision.

The newer Weekly Plans have been designed in consultation with Early Years teachers and experts, and include sufficient support and high quality resources to help teachers save time and preserve some semblance of a life-work balance.

Each of the Weekly Plans has three sections:

  • an introduction page with key outcomes, texts and poems;
  • focused literacy planning, with specific outcomes, teaching input and guided writing tasks and also including a daily reading-to-the-class session and continuous provision;
  • topic links giving outcomes in other areas which are linked to the continuous provision with brief descriptions.

The key outcomes include one specific outcome per week related to each of speaking and listening, reading and writing.

The plans provide a year of exciting and fun (and thorough) planning to inspire our youngest listeners, speakers, readers and writers.
