Mixed Year Maths (R/1, 2/3, 4/5)

Suzie Hunt By Suzie Hunt

Hamilton's mixed age maths planning for R/Y1, 2/3 and 4/5 will remain in the form of weekly plans for 2019/20.

We hope in time to develop flexible and short blocks for these mixed year combinations. Our approach to writing mixed age planning has always been to start with single year plans, so that the ground for mixed age is solid. These are now complete for years 1-6, and Reception is coming for September 2019. We are currently working on the most common mixed year groups, which are the ones within the key stages (1/2, 3/4 and 5/6). As a small charity, we have to move one step at a time, and we are not yet in a position to write mixed age planning for those groups that cross key stage boundaries. We will continue to provide weekly plans for mixed year R/1, 2/3 and 4/5, until we are able to produce blocks for them.

How to use the mixed age weekly plans for Year R/1

These plans cover the 2012 Early Years curriculum and the statutory objectives of the National Curriculum for England for Year 1. The Coverage Chart lays out the curriculum coverage for the year by week and by mathematical area. The Medium Term Plan lists each week's teaching focus and outcomes for each year group, organised as much as possible congruently so that you are addressing similar objectives with both year groups.

The Resource List provides a comprehensive list of physical resources suggested by the Hamilton plans. Outcomes Sheets provide a mechanism for you to record quick day-to-day judgements about children's mastery of objectives in the back of their maths books. You will need the mixed-year version of the Outcomes Sheet appropriate for the actual year of each child.

Answers to the exercises in the weekly resources appear at the end of each week's resource document.
