Bring the colour and excitement of Mardi Gras to your classroom!
Hamilton's Carnivals and Parades block in our Reception Celebrations topic provides plenty of opportunity to combine festive fun with effective learning.
Session two of Carnivals and Parades is fully focused on Mardi Gras, or Shrove Tuesday as the last day before the start of Lent is also called.
Why is Nian sad? Can children help Nian by finding out about festivals and parades and letting him join in the fun? Children learn about Mardi Gras' floats, costumes and music alongside Nian. Finish the session with a mini class parade showing off your own shoe box floats and wearing Mardi Gras masks!
Our session guidance and resources tell you all about Mardi Gras traditions and how to make your own cake, float and masks, as well as how to samba dance your way through your parade.
