Summer maths mastery training - new date added

Summer Term maths mastery training around the UK with Professor Ruth Merttens. Come along to one of Hamilton's free sessions in London, Kent, Portsmouth or Tyne & Wear.

Important questions about Mastery are being discussed everywhere.

  • How do we know children have mastered or are on-track to master age-related expectations?
  • What does Mastery really mean in the context of schools in England?
  • How do we ensure that children continue to enjoy their learning of mathematics, are excited by maths and can solve problems in their own ways?

In this session, Professor Ruth Merttens offers practical solutions underpinned by a robust theoretical perspective which starts with the premise that education cannot be divorced from its context in an open democracy.

The session will cover:

  • A useful and working definition of Mastery
  • Formative assessment of Mastery in primary classrooms
  • Implications for teaching:
  1. Problem solving and reasoning
  2. Skills and meta-skills
  3. Models and images
