Teacher retention is once more in the news, with the Education Select Committee calling for a long-term plan to deal with teacher retention and recruitment. Hamilton Trust - one of the most utilised websites in UK Primary Education – recently ran a survey asking teachers what tasks they spent most time doing, whether they considered these tasks worthwhile and if they had considered leaving the profession due to pressures at work. Massive numbers - getting on for 8000 teachers - completed the survey, making it easily the largest on this subject within recent times. The survey showed that the majority of teachers felt that far too much of their time and effort was not going on those things which have most positive impact on the education of children. This dissatisfaction was borne out by the fact that 94% of the teachers responding (7149) were considering leaving the profession. Download the full press release (PDF).
