Objectives

Geography

  • Use simple compass directions and locational and directional language to describe the location of features and routes on a map
  • Devise a simple map and use and construct basic symbols in a key.

Enrichment Activities

  • Maths: Measure length; Describe position, direction and movement, including whole, half, quarter and three-quarter turns (clockwise and anti-clockwise); Recognise and name common 2D shapes including number of sides.
  • Art & Design: Use drawing to develop and share their ideas, experiences and imagination.
  • English: Write or orally compose a story.
  • D&T: Design purposeful, functional, appealing products for themselves and other users based on design criteria.
  • PE: Perform dances using simple movement patterns.

Lesson Planning

Become a Map Master by completing a series of map challenges. Can you find hidden treasure? Or join a character on a walk through their story map? You will need to know your north from your south and your left from your right!
