Science

PSHE

  • Recognise, predict and assess risks in different situations and decide how to manage the responsibly (including sensible road use and risks in their local environment) and to use this as an opportunity to build resilience.
  • Recognise how their increasing independence brings increased responsibility to keep themselves and others safe.
  • Realise the nature and consequences of discrimination, teasing, bullying and aggressive behaviours (including cyber bullying, use of prejudice-based bullying both in person, online and through social media).
  • Recognise bullying and abuse in all its forms (including prejudice-based bullying both in person, online and through social media.
  • Develop strategies to resolve disputes and conflict through negotiation and appropriate compromise and to give rich and constructive and support to benefit others as well as themselves.
  • Discuss how their body will, and their emotions may, change as they approach and move through puberty.

Lesson Planning

Look at the emotional changes in puberty. Use drama to act out typical scenarios involving parents and teenagers; look at the different viewpoints and discuss how compromise can ease situations. Look at the meaning of friendships and where help can be found.

Teaching Outcomes:

  • To be aware of the emotional changes that occur during puberty.

Children will:

  • Describe the qualities of a good friend.
  • Discuss some of the feelings I experience in different situations.
  • Explain where to get help with my problems.
