Objectives

Art and Design

  • Use a range of materials creatively to design and make products.
  • Use drawing, painting and sculpture to develop and share their ideas, experiences and imagination.

Design and Technology

  • Select from and use a range of tools and equipment to perform practical tasks (cutting, shaping, joining & finishing).
  • Build structures, exploring how they can be made stronger, stiffer and more stable.

English

  • Develop pleasure in reading, motivation to read, vocabulary and understanding by:
    • being encouraged to link what they read or hear read to their own experiences.
    • participating in discussion about what is read to them, taking turns and listening to what others say.
  • Use spoken language to develop understanding through speculating, hypothesising, imagining and exploring ideas.
  • Participate in discussions, presentations, performances, role play, improvisations and debate.

Science

  • Observe closely, using simple equipment.
  • Use their observations and ideas to suggest answers to questions.
  • Identify and name a variety of everyday materials, including wood, plastic, glass, metal, water, and rock.
  • Distinguish between an object and the material from which it is made.

Lesson Planning

A carousel of activities gives you a choice of ways to start children engaging with nature in the outdoor world and their impact on it.

Children will:

  • Make the school environment greener.
  • Learn about the term ‘eco-footprint.’
  • Take part in creative actvities.

  • Ingredients for making bird feeders e.g. bird seed, lard, yogurt pots and string
