Objectives

Maths

  • Sequence events in chronological order using language.
  • Recognise and use language relating to dates, including days of the week, weeks, months, years.
  • Interpret and construct simple pictograms, tally charts, block diagrams and simple tables.
  • Ask and answer simple questions by counting the number of objects in each category and sorting the categories by quantity.
  • Ask and answer questions about totalling and comparing categorical data.

Lesson Planning

Turn 3 dimensional block graphs into 2 dimensional graphs to interpret data.

Children will:

  • Interpret data to construct a simple block diagram.

You Will Need

  • Independent task with caption: How did you come to school today?
  • Empty container for each possible mode of transport
  • Place value abacus and counters OR maths link cubes
  • Class list of names and pens
  • Block graph for teacher demo on IWB or flip chart
  • Graph paper and colouring pencils
