Objectives

Early learning goals

  • Talk about past and present events in own lives and in the lives of family members.
  • Represent ideas, thoughts and feelings through design and technology, art, music, dance, role play and stories.
  • Use everyday language to solve problems and recognise, create and describe patterns.
  • Count reliably with numbers from one to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number.
  • Develop narratives and explanations by connecting ideas or events.

Lesson Planning

All aboard the birthday train! Children will go on an adventure to `Birthday Land´. What will they discover on the way? Back to class for a birthday themed Maths session!

Children will:

  • Celebrate the uniqueness of their birthday celebrations and those of their classmates.
  • Know the months of the year and days of the week.
  • Use play experiences to build upon mathematical knowledge.
  • Describe `Birthday Land'.

You Will Need

  • Selection of objects, e.g. football, teddy, car or a bag
  • Different sized pieces of wrapping paper measured to fit an object
  • Sellotape
  • Driver´s cap
  • Pieces of scrap paper to use as tickets
