Objectives

Design and Technology

  • Use research and develop design criteria to inform the design of innovative, functional, appealing products that are fit for purpose and aimed at particular individuals or groups.
  • Generate, develop, model and communicate their ideas through discussion, annotated sketches, cross-sectional and exploded diagrams, prototypes, pattern pieces and computer-aided design.
  • Select from and use a wider range of materials and components, including textiles, according to their functional properties & aesthetic qualities.

Lesson Planning

Start to work on a design brief for a fashion item; create a ‘mood board’ to gather all your ideas for your design; begin to select materials.

Teaching Outcomes:

  • Understand the design brief and to generate ideas through a ‘mood board’ using images, patterns, textiles and craft ideas.

Children will:

  • Read and understand the design brief they have been given.
  • Work with a group to create a ‘mood board’. A place where they gather all their ideas before they design their final piece.
  • Listen to the ideas of others and feedback to the class about their ideas.
  • Begin to select materials, including some from previous ‘craft’ blocks, for their outfit.

You Will Need

  • A3 card
  • Magazines and catalogues
  • Large paper (1 per design brief)
  • Sticky-tack
  • Pins
