Objectives

History

  • Know and understand the nature of the ancient civilisation of the Shang Dynasty of China.
  • They should construct informed responses that involve thoughtful selection and organisation of relevant historical information.

English

  • Maintain attention and participate actively in collaborative conversations, staying on topic and initiating and responding to comments.
  • Use spoken language to develop understanding through speculating, hypothesising, imagining and exploring ideas.

Design and Technology

  • Generate, develop, model and communicate their ideas through annotated sketches and prototypes.

Lesson Planning

Designing the board, cards and figures. Apply information learned about the Shang to the design of a role-playing game; discuss ideas collaboratively; create sketches and prototypes for a design.

Teaching Outcomes:

  • To decide the rules of the game based on their knowledge of the Shang.
  • To speculate and hypothesise in a collaborative conversation to design the game.
  • To draw and model their ideas for the role-playing game.

Children will:

  • Apply information they have learned about the Shang to the design of a role-playing game.
  • Discuss ideas collaboratively.
  • Create sketches and prototypes for a design.
