Lesson Planning

Learn about Ancient Egyptian festivals and processions; discover the musical instruments that were played in Ancient Egypt and make your own sistrum.

Teaching Outcomes:

  • To understand the importance of festivals to the Ancient Egyptians.
  • To create a life-sixe sarcophagus as a class.
  • To make their own sistrum.

Children will:

  • Describe an Ancient Egyptian festival.
  • Describe an Ancient Egyptian funeral procession.

You Will Need

  • Large cardboard boxes
  • Masking tape
  • Wire coat hanger
  • 1m length of similar wire or corrugated card
  • Florist wire or string
  • Ring pulls
  • Beer bottles tops
  • Foil food dishes or aluminium foil
  • Craft knife
  • Card rolls (e.g. kitchen towel inner)
  • Felt tips/paints – red, blue, yellow, green, black & white
