Choose your team

Topics Year 4/5
This unit is part of Computational Thinking and Creativity Spreadsheets and Databases

Objectives

Computing

  • Select, use and combine database software to design and create content that accomplishes given goals, including collecting, analysing, evaluating and presenting data and information.
  • Be responsible, competent, confident and creative users of ICT.
  • Evaluate and apply IT, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems.

Maths

  • Complete, read and interpret information in tables.

Lesson Planning

Add in your performance data on football players to your new database. Try it out and select your own fantasy ‘team’ to follow. Will your team win the league? Can you now share all of your data in sports know-how in a ‘masterclass’ for your friends?

Teaching Outcomes:

  • To enter data accurately and use the functions of a database.
  • To scrutinise data on a database to select high calibre fantasy footballers.

Children will:

  • Manipulate data in their database to identify footballers for their team.
  • Enter data on their database and check for accuracy.
  • ‘Ask’ their database questions to manipulate the information and identify potential ‘fantasy league’ players.
  • Share new computing skills with others in the form of a ‘data in sports masterclass’.
