Objectives

Geography

  • Name, locate and identify characteristics of the four countries and capital cities of the United Kingdom and its surrounding seas.
  • Use basic geographical vocabulary to refer to key physical features and key human features.
  • Use world maps, atlases and globes to identify the United Kingdom and its countries.
  • Use aerial photographs and plan perspectives to recognise landmarks and basic human and physical features.
  • Devise a simple map.
  • Use and construct basic symbols in a key.

English

  • Write clearly, accurately and coherently, adapting language and style in and for a range of contexts, purposes and audiences.
  • Use discussion in order to learn.

Lesson Planning

Children reflect on their learning, guided by teacher-led revisiting of main creative outcomes from each block and photos. Talking Partners discuss their favourite memory of ‘We Are Britain’ and contribute to a whole Class Scrapbook before making plans to pass on knowledge to an invited audience.

Teaching Outcomes
To consolidate learning about the constituent countries of the UK.
To make a contribution to the class scrapbook.

Children will:

  • Reflect on their learning, using the main creative outcomes from each block and photos of activities.
  • Reflect on their learning with talking partner.
  • Recall and record something of their learning, to contribute to class scrapbook of learning memories.
  • Produce Class Scrapbook.
  • Discuss who should be the invited audience to a presentation of their learning and what should be included in that presentation.
