Objectives

Geography

  • Develop contextual knowledge of the location of globally significant places, both terrestrial and marine.
  • Interpret a range of sources of geographical information, including maps, globes and aerial photographs.
  • Name and locate the world’s seven continents and five oceans.

Music

  • Play tuned and un-tuned instruments musically.
  • Experiment with, create, select and combine sounds using the inter-related dimensions of music.

Lesson Planning

Listen to sounds of the sea; Make a mind map of episodes from the voyage of Odysseus. Create a sequence of sounds matched to these events.

Teaching Outcomes
To use knowledge of the oceans in music making.
To use imagination to create a piece of music to demonstrate mood and emotion.

Children will:

  • Use sea mythology as a stimulus for music.
  • Create and perform music in relation to mood and emotion.
