Art

  • Develop a wide range of art and design techniques in using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space.

Geography

  • Use basic geographical vocabulary to refer to key human features (e.g. factory, town, harbour).
  • Use maps to locate the UK.

Lesson Planning

Investigate some of the features of Winter. Use paint and potato printing to create a version of the painting ‘Waterloo Bridge’ by Monet.

Teaching Outcomes
To create own versions of the painting ‘Waterloo Bridge’ by Monet.
To look at the real Waterloo Bridge and describe its features.

Children will:

  • Create own versions of ‘Waterloo Bridge’ by Claude Monet.
  • Talk about and use colours, patterns and shapes.
  • Use Google Earth to locate Waterloo Bridge and describe its features.

You Will Need

  • Black A3 sugar paper
  • Masking tape
  • Colour-mixing palettes
  • Potatoes cut in half, with half of each cut into an arch shape
  • Vivaldi’s ‘Winter’.
