Primary Cross-curricular Topics

Welcome to the Topics planning area of our site! You will find a wide selection of Topics with resources for each of the age ranges Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2), Lower Key Stage 2 (Years 3 and 4) and Upper Key Stage 2 (Years 5 and 6).

Click on View KS1, LKS2 or UKS2 to see which Topics are available for your chosen age range and a short description of each Topic. Each Topic has an Overview document, a list of Objectives covered and the resources you will need to collect for each session.

Some Literacy Units have been written to teach alongside particular Topics. They can be found here alongside the relevant Theme. The Topic Theme Chart shows how they link in with the overall planning.

Friends of Hamilton have access to all the materials for their chosen age range and School Subscription members have access to all the materials on our site. Some sample Topics are available for registered users of Hamilton to trial.

The chn discover how their diet plays a major part in the way their body functions. The Food Pyramid demonstrates how much of different types of food they should eat. The chn research food groups and nutrition.

02: Colourful Diets

Description

We all know we should eat lots of fruit and vegetables. But did you know that we should also eat a variety of colours? The chn discuss the fruit and veg they eat and discover new foods they should eat to complete their rainbow diet.

The chn welcome a fitness instructor who comes to talk to them about their bodies and safe ways to exercise. The chn ask their prepared questions & learn how to stretch, preparing their bodies for exercise. Exercise diaries begin.

07: Athletes in Action

The chn pose using images of athletes in action, this leads to a game of charades where the chn silently act out a sport for the class to guess. Finally the chn take these poses & make athletic sculptures.

It's time to go BIG! The chn work together in groups to form life sized models of athletes in action. The flexible chicken wire allows the chn to wrap and mould around the parts of a brave volunteer!

10: Olympic Motto

11: On your marks … Get set …

What animal best represents you? The chn reflect on their strengths and compare themselves to animals. The animal they choose becomes their mascot for the mini Olympics. Chn design their mascot in appropriate style & colours.
