Be inspired by the seascapes of JMW Turner. Use a variety of techniques to create different watercolour paintings ready to create a sea-storm collage.

Teaching Outcomes
To use a range of techniques (including using salt, blotting and colour mixing) to give texture and dynamism to watercolour work.
To discuss differences between the modern world and the 19th century by looking at works by J. W. M. Turner, producing evidence to back up observations of change in history.

Children will:

• Learn about the paintings and life of J. M. W. Turner.
• Discuss differences between their own dress and that of Turner.
• Use the techniques of blotting and adding salt to watercolours to create different effects of texture and patterning.
• Mix colours to create a range of hues appropriate to paintings of the sea.
• Discuss why they like particular paintings, explaining how they make them feel.
