Africa

A new UKS2 Topic for the Autumn term, which is free to all users! Most themes for this exciting and thought provoking Topic have now been published - just one on the World Cup in South Africa in 2010 to come later! The Topic covers children's rights & the Millennium Development Goals are studied in relation to Africa & the UK. Health, water, food & trade, Mandela, African art, history & geography are all covered & support to link with an African school is given. Gain your International School Award! There will shortly be a new Theme about the World Cup Football tournament to be held in South Africa in 2010 too!

The Americas

Three of four Themes about the Americas have now been published - Native Americans, Mayas & Aztecs and the Incas. The fourth Theme will cover the American Civil war and should be available during the Spring Term. Lots of exciting activities are available to bring the lives of these peoples into the classroom!

Maths: shape, measures and data

We have finished all the plans and resources for the new maths teaching sequences which cover shape, measure and data handling in the Spring Term.  Those for the Summer Term will gradually be published this term along with some additional days for some of the number Teaching Sequences. The 'Medium Term Planning Using Teaching Sequences' document for your year group in each term tells you which plans are available to download on the site. This is updated as the Teaching Sequences are revised.

Have a look at the Examples provided for each Teaching Sequence! Anita Straker, who was responsible for the National Numeracy Strategy (1999), has kindly provided a supplement of examples for each Hamilton Teaching Sequence. Like the NNS original on which it is based, this shows the progression round a particular element of teaching content – enabling a teacher to differentiate and also to understand, at a glance, the mathematical progression.

New mixed-age literacy plans

We’re now adding the finishing touches to Spring Year B in our two year rolling programme for teachers with mixed age range classes.  The Summer Term Units will follow. Hamilton plans support mixed age ranges R/1, 1/2, 3/4, and 5/6.  The year's Overview in each Term tells you which plans we’re still working on.  Find out what’s available for your age range in the English Plans.
