To access results from the Search, the user has to be a Friend of Hamilton (having made an individual donation or as part of a School Subscription).
How to Search Effectively
The internal Hamilton Trust search works in the same way as Google. Type in any word or phrase, but the more general it is, the more results you will get - possibly far too many! Similarly if you are too specific you may get no results. It may be quicker to use the Literacy, Maths, Science and Topic buttons if you know which year and term you wish to access.
The sort of results you get are:
- Plans - Word documents, Literacy Units, Maths Weekly Plans, Maths Teaching Sequences or archived English & Maths Weekly Plans for a particular year or mixed-year group. These are fully adaptable. Click on Literacy or Maths buttons for more information.
- Sessions - Word documents, Topic sessions, where each Session is one complete ‘teaching and learning’ activity usually involving two subjects or areas of learning. Downloading the Session will enable you to see the Topic and the Theme to which the session belongs. You can then find related Sessions by visiting the Topics or Science section of the site and selecting the relevant Year and Topic or Science Strand. They are fully adaptable. Click on Topics or Science button for more information.
- Animated Texts - Flash movies (swf, exe or app for Macs), these are imaginative stories, fantastic poems and fascinating factual texts for use on Interactive Whiteboards. Non-adaptable. Click on Literacy button for more information.
- Poster Books - Word documents or PDF files, these are static story-book versions of the Animated Tales/Poems or Facts. They are full colour and non-adaptable.
- Oral stories or Rhymes - Word documents. These are exactly what they say they are! Click on Literacy button for more information.
- Parent site materials - These resources can be found on our sister site Hamilton@Home at www.hamiltonathome.org.uk. They may be useful in the classroom, to give as homework or for parents to use with their children at home.
How do I use the results to find other resources? If your Search has turned up a few results and you want to explore related resources, you can use the rest of the site to help you.
- If you have a Plan, note down the Year group, the Number or Letter and the Term (e.g. Year 1, Unit 2A Autumn or Week N Summer, Autumn Maths Week 1 or Spring Teaching Sequence 9) and then use the Literacy or Maths Plans sections of the site to locate either the Plan or its accompanying Resources (You will need to be a Friend or part of a School Subscription if it is not one of the Free Plans or a Registered User to access the Free Plans.)
- If you have a Session, note down the Science Strand or Topic and the Theme by looking at the Title on a Session. You can then find this through the Science or Topics sections of the site. (You will need to be a Friend or part of a School Subscription if it is not one of the Free Topics or a Registered User to access the Free Topics and all the Science Strands.)
- If you have a Rhyme, an Animated Tale/Poem or Fact, an Oral Story or a Poster Book, you can note the title and find these and others like them in the Literacy part of the site (you will need to be a Friend or part of a School Subscription if the resource is not attached to a Free Plan or Session).
- If you have a Parent document, visit Hamilton@Home to find similar resources.
