Objectives

Day 1

Use a written method to add:

  • Pairs and threes of 3-digit numbers;
  • ‘Towers’ of 2-digit numbers.

Day 2

  • Column addition of amounts of money.

Day 3

  • Revisit strategies to add amounts of money – place value/ column/ round and adjust;
  • Choose a strategy to add amounts of money.

Lesson Planning

Day 1
Revision of adding to total 100, 1 or £1.

Timed: 5mins. [PowerPoint Slide 2]

Each student will need their copy of the Skill Drill Record Sheet [see below, to be printed for any new students/ lost sheets].

Do students need a reminder before you start or struggle once they’ve begun? Revisit 100-square strategies from last time [See today’s Slide 18].

Day 2
Revision of adding pairs and threes of 3-digit numbers and ‘towers’ of 2-digit numbers.
