Objectives

Day 1

  • Fractions explained: understand a fraction as describing a proportion.

Day 2

  • Compare simple fractions using the fraction wall.

Day 3

  • Identify equivalent fractions.
  • Reduce fractions to their simplest form.

Lesson Planning

Day 1
Revise division using the vertical recording method.

Timed: 5mins. [PowerPoint Slide 2]

Each student will need their copy of the Skill Drill Record Sheet [see below, to be printed for any new students/ lost sheets].

Do students need a reminder before you start or struggle once they’ve begun? Revisit the vertical recording strategy from last time [See today’s PowerPoint Slide 17].

Day 2
Practise drawing and shading arrays to represent fractions. [PowerPoint Slide 2] Timed: 5mins

Day 3
Practise comparing fractions. Students will need to refer to Resources: Day 3
