Objectives

Day 1

  • Understand division as 'How many groups of...' e.g. 'How many groups of 5 in 20?' by using repeated subtraction.
  • Understand division as 'How many groups of...' by using arrays.

Day 2

  • Understand division as the inverse of multiplication.
  • Recognise that there is sometimes a remainder after division.

Day 3

  • Use partitioning to support halving and dividing by 4, making a link to doubling.

Lesson Planning

Day 1
Revise multiplying 2-digit and 3-digit numbers by a single digit. Timed: 5mins. [PowerPoint Slide 2]

Each student will need their copy of the Skill Drill Record Sheet [see below, to be printed for any new students/ lost sheets].

Practise writing division number sentences for given numbers. [PowerPoint Slide 2] Timed: 5mins.

Day 3
Practise using grouping on a number line or using arrays for division with remainders Timed: 5mins [PowerPoint Slide 2]
