Objectives

Day 1

  • Use the informal written strategy of partitioning for doubling and for multiplying teens numbers by a single digit.

Day 2

  • Introduce the grid method for doubling.
  • Use the grid method for multiplying teems numbers by a single digit.

Day 3

  • Multiply 2-digit and 3-digit numbers by single digit numbers using the grid method.

Lesson Planning

Day 1
Revise multiplying amounts of money by multiples of 10 and 100. Timed: 5mins. [PowerPoint Slide 2]

Each student will need their copy of the Skill Drill Record Sheet [see below, to be printed for any new students/ lost sheets].

Day 2
Practise use of partitioning for doubling and 2-digit x 1-digit multiplication [PowerPoint Slide 2] Timed: 5mins
