Objectives

Day 1

  • Know how to write tenths as fractions and decimals; Understand the place value of each digit in numbers with one decimal place.

Day 2

  • Multiply numbers with one decimal place by 10, and divide by 10 to give numbers with one decimal place.

Day 3

  • Order numbers with one decimal place and locate on a line.

Lesson Planning

Day 1
Revision of placing numbers to 100,000 on a number line. Timed: 5mins. [PowerPoint Slide 2]

Each student will need their copy of the Skill Drill Record Sheet [see below, to be printed for any new students/ lost sheets].

Do students need a reminder before you start? Revisit the number line from last time [See today’s PowerPoint Slide 11].

Are students struggling once they’ve begun? Can you quickly deal with a small number of students one-to-one? Or do you need to revisit the number line [today’s PowerPoint Slide 11].

Day 2
Practise writing tenths as fractions and decimals, and to identify the Place Value of an underlined digit. [PowerPoint Slide 2] Timed: 5mins

Do students need a reminder before you start? Revisit the PV chart and grid from last time [See today’s PowerPoint Slide 12].

Are students struggling once they’ve begun? Can you quickly deal with a small number of students one-to-one? Or do you need to revisit the PV images [today’s PowerPoint Slide 12].

Don’t forget to ask students to complete their Skill Drill Record Sheet.

Day 3
Rehearse multiplying numbers with one decimal place by 10, and dividing by 10 to give numbers with one decimal place.
