Primary Literacy Resources

Welcome to the literacy planning area of our site! Here you will find Literacy Units based on the Primary Framework for Years 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and Reception plus mixed age plans for Years 1/2, 3/4 and 5/6.

The Literacy Units are usually two or three week (occasionally one or four week) plans with accompanying resources (found by clicking on the Plans tab). The Term's Overview document lists the available Units in each term with a brief description of each plan. Each Unit also has an individual Overview showing which objectives are covered.

Some Literacy Units have been written to teach alongside particular Topics. They can be found alongside the relevant Theme in the Topic area. The Topic Theme Chart shows how they link in with the overall planning.

Also available in this area are Animated Texts (facts & fiction), Oral Texts, Spellings and Homework sheets. The Phonics tab takes you to Code-Breakers, our synthetic phonics programme.

Friends of Hamilton have access to all the materials for their chosen age range and School Subscription members have access to all the materials on our site. Some sample materials are available for registered users of Hamilton to trial.

Y3 Literacy - New Curriculum Plans

Our Curriculum Plans have a new format to reflect the changes to content and pedagogy. They include Outcomes. A Medium Term plan is available (click Overview) as is a chart showing coverage of statutory objectives. Old plans are in the Plan Archive.

NEW 2013 Year 3/4 Fiction Plan 5A: Adventure stories

Description

Using The Hodgeheg chn look for examples of adverbs & adverbial phrases. They memorise a section of dialogue & use it as a basis for their own writing. In the second week the focus is on complex & compound sentences as chn write an animal adventure story.

Description

Chn explore and discuss adverts. They find key features of persuasive writing and use these with a twist, to persuade people NOT to buy! Using compound and complex sentences the chn will then write a persuasive letter about their bedtime!

Description

Children use their imagination to write a class poem about where they would go if they could fly like a bird. They look at eagles and swans and find exciting vocabulary. Then they write short poems based on haiku about birds that interest them.
